I’m testing IntenseDebate for the comments.
Rationale
The main reason is I would like to offer a couple of features to commentors here that I appreciate at other sites:
- Alternative authentication opens (primarily OpenID)
- Email notification of responses/comments
There are lots of other features to IntenseDebate – like voting on comments – but I don’t see them filling a need we have at this time.
I chose IntenseDebate because it is owned by WordPress, so I hope it integrates well and follows WordPress in philosophy and quality. It is also supposed to be extremely easy to uninstall if you don’t like it.
(I always greatly appreciate software that takes time to explicitly mention ease of uninstallation.)
Problem
I have noticed one problem already:
Sometimes my comments come out with the wrong username. That is they ignore my expressed preference, Jason and use the “real” account name, ushimitsudoki.
This seems to happen when I am logged in – it tells me I am posting as Jason, but the comment appears as being from ushimitsudoki. When I log out, it seems to revert to Jason.
Similarly, even when I see the comment proper as being from Jason, the “Recent Comments” plug-in displays it as being from ushimitsudoki.
Feedback
Please give the new system a whirl, and let me know if IntenseDebate actually adds any value above and beyond the stock WordPress comments system.

Test was a failure.
